The key ingredient in the Heliocare sunscreen is Fernblock, a tropical fern (Polypodium leucotomos) native to Central America. Heliocare, has over the years become more sophisticated in its protection and actions as you will see below:

HELIOCARE - FERNBLOCK (ORIGINAL RANGE) 

Fernblock, is an antioxidant and this was the first generation antioxidant sunscreen formulation in the Heliocare range. It also contains supporting antioxidants Green Tea / Vit C+E.

Contains Ultrasomes that do not reverse DNA damage caused by UV radiation but it assists the body's own natural repair process making it 4 times faster than the normal repair process.  It is a broad spectrum sunscreen which protects against UVB | UVA.

 HELIOCARE 360 - FERNBLOCK FC

Fernblock FC is a second-generation antioxidant sunscreen formulation and is a potent antioxidant. It is 4 x stronger than the normal Fernblock found in the basic Heliocare range, as it contains higher concentrations of two polyphenols: Ferulic acid and Caffeic acid. Fernblock FC inhibits the generation of free radicals and ROS (reactive oxygen species) caused by UV radiation.

It includes 2 extra potent antioxidants- Ferulic acid + Caffeic acid (hence the FC). It also still contains the Green Tea / Vit C+E which are the supporting antioxidants in the original range 

It is a broad spectrum sunscreen which protects against UVB | UVA but the 360 also protects against High Energy Visible Light (HEVL) and | Infrared-A radiation (IR-A) - its protects against a wider spectrum.

It is a more sophisticated formulation with more protection and actions than the original basic range.

It contains Roxisomes that do not reverse DNA damage caused by UV radiation but they assist the body’s natural repair process & it does this 10 times faster than the normal repair process.

HELIOCARE 360 - FERNBLOCK+

​Fernblock+, is a third generation antioxidant sunscreen formulation. It is 8 times stronger than the normal Fernblock found in the basic Heliocare range, as it contains higher concentrations of 4 polyphenols: Ferulic acid, Caffeic acid, Cinnamic acid and Vanillic acid. It is gives double the protection of Fernblock FC. It prevents the formation of ROS (endogenous & exogenous causes), thus oxidative damage to the DNA does not occur. The antioxidant activity enhances natural DNA repair enzyme activity – it increases P53 expression, thus removing damaged DNA (CPDs). Long-lasting 24-hour activity against UVB/UVA.

These sunscreens are still part of the 360º range but they contain DNA repair enzymes which repair damaged DNA.
